Upcoming Event
14 Apr 2012 - 16 Apr 2012
Lao New Year is celebrated at approximately the same time every year. On the first day of the celebrations, statues and images of Buddha are taken out of temples for a ritual cleansing. They are cleansed with scented water and placed on special alters in the temples for the duration of Pii Mai (pronounced Pee My).
Sabai-dee and Welcome to Vientiane
Chosen as the capital after Laos was established as a French protectorate in the late 19th century, Vientiane, pronounced "Wieng Chan" ("Sandalwood City"), is still the capital of Laos today. Situated on a bend in the Mekong River, Vientiane is the country's hub for travel to the rest of the country and an important junction for trade.
While it is the busiest, most bustling city in Laos, with just 450,000 residents it is the most laidback city in Asia - almost like an overgrown village!
Our Vientiane Hotels site features an interactive map and pictures of each of our Vientiane hotel properties, which means you can know exactly where you are staying and what kind of hotel and room you are booking for your Vientiane holiday. There is plenty to explore in Vientiane, for those making a visa run from Thailand and everyone else!
To go directly to see the Vientiane hotels available, click on Vientiane Accommodation. Alternatively, go to our Vientiane Map to choose what area of the city you'd like your Vientiane hotel to be in. For a unique personal touch, you can even get to know who you are staying with, as many of our Vientiane hotels also offer pictures, details and stories of their owners or managers.
Whether you are a backpacker seeking a local experience in budget Vientiane hotel, an expat worker looking for long term accommodation with a family atmostphere, a tourist seeking proximity to the major sites or a business traveller requiring a convenient location and business facilities, there is a place for you on your Vientiane vacation!
