Mr Southavy Aphayarath, Room Division Manager

Southavy was born into a farm family in a village outside of Vientiane. In those days, the Lane-Xang Hotel was the only first-class hotel in Vientiane. People from the village returned from the city with stories of the hotel … and such wonders seemed impossible for a small child to believe. [Read more]

"Not qiute what I expected, I'm sorry to say."
Mrs. Tina Borgmann - Denmark on 19/11/2009
"It was stated online that there were a pool, (which was why we chose the hotel), when we went down to the pool it was empty for water, and the hole area around it was verryb dirty.
When we pointed out in the reseption that the pool was empty the reeptionit jut looked and u and ad, that there were nothing to do about it. We suggeted that they would pay for using the pool at the nabo hotel, which they refused :-(

It wa also stated that we would get fresh fruit on arrival, we diden't get any before we asked for it, at we got 2 aple that did not look wery fresh, al in all a very bad experience, with a hotel that did not come cheap"
Mrs. Louise Rasmussen - Denmark on 13/11/2009
"HOTEL WAS IN A GOOD LOCATION. GOOD STANDARD FOR PRICE PAID. GOT EXACT ROOM WITH A VIEW THAT I ASKED FOR.STAFF WERE PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY."
Mr. PETER LAWLEY - Australia on 26/10/2009
"We had our fair share of pros and cons on this trip unfortunately the Lane Xang Hotel accomodation offered mostly cons.

We were fairly dissappointed in the quality of the room provided. The room was old and the shower did not work properly. Most days the hot water was not existent.
The front desk staff who were very helpful and friendly. The pool was green and murky and has probably seen better days.

Overall rating of hotel would be 4 out of 10.

"A very nice older style with a lot of potential charm but requiring a new lift!

I found that none of the inside cupboards had been dusted for many months, so I had to do that myself with some wet cloth etc.

One of the main reasons that I went to this hotel was to use the swimming pool, and guess what - not open for the week! And the gym well aparently only open during the middle of the day - just when I don't want to use it!

Food safety and hygiene also needs attention. eg Breakfast - many insects flying around, including ordinary flies and fruit flies all getting to enjoy a taste of the buffet before I could get to it! Surely they could spray the room the night before or at least cover the food. A little more attention to detail required here!"
Mr. Glenn Ford - Australia on 20/04/2009
"they apparently had some complaints in the past, but all went well for me for the week. the internet connection didn't always work properly. above average service, average value."
Mr. John Spiri - United States on 28/03/2009
"Our 5 nights stay was pleasant, no dramas. Didn't expect too much since we didn't pay for high star rating. Everything was sufficient, breakfast did get boring with limited selections.
Warning, loads of mosquitoes on the lobby floor. Only a few in our second floor bedroom. Pool was a nice relieve from the heat and humidity but not clean, sauna and message facilities didn't used. Cleaning staff were extremely friendly and nice. Location is perfect, across the road to Mekong River, all the riverside restaurants. First street on the right will lead you straight to the Namphu Fountain, a little expensive for locals to eat. Through the street passed the Fountain we could walk to the Morning markets and the new Shopping Mall. A lot of coffee shops and eateries along the way. Taking a tuktuk from hotel to tourist attractions is a lot cheaper. Make sure you do bargain. Things aren't all that far, we walked from Patuxai to the hotel without a hassle. Highly recommend the Patuxai musical fountain displays, most picturesque time is almost sunset. Will stay at Lane Xang hotel again for it's location. Love the Mekong Deck restaurants, beautiful Laotian foods with priceless view."
Mr. Alioshar Guo - China on 17/03/2009
"The hotel looks as if no money has been spent on it in years. One nice touch - the mat in the lift shows the name of the day (so it's changed every day) - unfortunately however each of the three mats I saw was filthy. Rooms are very, very basic.Hot water comes from an immersion heater yuou have to remember to turn on, and doesn't last long. The water in the pool was pretty murky and the concrete terrace around was quite badly broken up. The breakfast buffet was inedible (I should probably have had congee, rather than western-style). The staff were OK, but the hotel had no charm whatsoever and desperately needs to be updated."
Mr. Shane O'Mahony - United Kingdom on 16/03/2009
"This was the most depressing hotel i have EVER stayed in (and I have travelled extensively in the third world). The highlights were the spartan fit out, the prison like no windows accomodation, blood stains on BOTH of my towels. broken toilet (that was missing a lid on the cistern), used soap and hairs in the bathroom, bed that was as hard as rock and smelt bad, gymnasium that was broken, breakfast buffet that was off. It was so depressing that i decided to drink myself to sleep. AVOID!!"
Mr. Daniel Vovil - Australia on 27/02/2009
"The staff is kind.
Wi-fi is free of charge.
but,
The bath is not warm enough."
Mr. Kazuhisa Yamada - Japan on 10/01/2009
"Great hotel which has seen better days. The staff there are friendly and very welcoming. The hotel looks like it needs a fair amount of maintenance in places, though the rooms themselves were quite clean. Large rooms with huge bathrooms and sinks. The free WIFI proved very handy as well, would probably return again. Location of the hotel is again very convenient."
Mr. Naciketa Datta - United Kingdom on 15/12/2008
"Overall is ok but it is quite old"
Ms. sarintra bumrungpruek - Thailand on 15/12/2008
"The hotel is super value it has a very nostalgic soviet feel to it which is hard to come by nowadays. It is in need of renovation but it is fine ie clean safe comfortable central and relaxing. The breakfast is more than you require and interesting lots of different types of people stay here.Iwiil stay here again."
Mr. James Doran - Ireland on 14/12/2008
"Staff on front desk had limited English and when asking about locations and maps all they were able to provide was the brochure for the hotel! not at all useful.
Thick dust on furniture in room. Light fittings not working. Shower not actually a shower, just a hand held shower head that is too short to stand under. Electrics look dangerous such as light fittings broken and hanging out of the ceiling above the shower. Overall a rundown hotel that charges far too much, only redeeming feature was size of the rooms, this was the junior suite, looks better in the pics than in the flesh, book here if you are desperate!"
Mr. Stuart Miller - Australia on 23/11/2008
"Have stayed in this hotel on 3 or 4 occassions. Bed is comfortable, bathrooms have been done up, plenty of hot water. Reasonable choice of food for breakfast."
Mr. Eric McKenzie - New Zealand on 19/10/2008
"I was left with the impression, they wanted me to leave, or at least not be there. The most common question was "When are you going to leave?" Overall the hotel was fine, most of the staff were polite and friendly.

I moved up the street to the TaiPan, ..."
Mr. Terry Mcgoldrick - United States on 04/10/2008
"I got really sick and the management took me to the international clinic. They placed me on a stretcher in ED and I was treated by a doctor and nurses within 10 minutes. I am very greatful and wouldn't have made my flight to Bangkok that afternoon if it wasn't for the assistance of the management at the hotel. Please pass on my appreciation.
"
Mr. John Campbell - Australia on 26/07/2008
"It was in the perfect area for our stay. The rooms were ok. Bathrooms need work. What got me the most was that the 3rd floor turned into a prostitution ring at night. "
Ms. Elinor Saunders - United States on 25/07/2008
"When we arrived the staff tried to charge us even though we had already paid. The room had a very musty/stale smell which irritated my girlfriend's asthma. The room we got was made up but the bed sheets were filthy, when I informed reception about this they seemed very indifferent to my issue and said it was up tp me to 'catch' on of the cleanng ladis to get them to do it.
I asked to be moved to a different room and the two rooms they showed me were the same.
We booked throught the manager of the hotel our onward buses to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. We paid him for tickets on a VIP bus which has less seats and more comfort only to find out on our departure that we had been booked on a very cramped minibus. When I queried this bus he said it was merely a shuttle bus takng us to the bus terminal to board the large VIP bus. This never occured. We asked of other people on the bus and they only had to pay a fraction of the price we paid highlighting that the manager of this supposedly reputable hotel scammed us knowingly.
Also the breakfast which is included is frightfully bad!!!"
Mr. Kevin Byrne - Ireland on 21/06/2008
"While the staff were most courteous and welcoming, unfortunately technology wise leaves a little more to be desired:
1. the internal phone system was down the whole of my 1 week stay there
2. The cable TV signal was grainy and CNN was down, only voice but the pictures do not appear for the last 3 days of my stay.
3. Due perhaps to the lack of lighting, place feels a little spooky at times."
Mr. Nailul Hafiz - Singapore on 03/06/2008
"a good budget accomodation with a swimming pool for a dip during the hot afternoon."
Mr. Mohd Zainal Abidin Bin Mohd Sulong - Malaysia on 24/05/2008
"Promised airport pick-up but nobody turned up.
Room needs a lot of improvement: power points do not work and emit out electrical sparks when trying to use them; no shampoo provided for first two days, only on last day; washroom lightings not functioning on first day; no ball-point pen provided for writing.
PR officer at lobby hopeless in providing info on tourist spots of interest. Receptionist counter staff poor in English and some are not very friendly.
I would not use the same hotel again."
Mr. Lim Chin Kiong - Malaysia on 02/05/2008
"Overall the staff are frendly and helpful. On two occassions, a senior staff from the front office and the staff at the massage centre did not keep to their words i.e price and time."
Ms. Ann Chang - Malaysia on 21/04/2008
"Lane Xang hotel was very good value. The room was bright, and clean, with a comfortable bed.
The staff were very helpful.
the hotel is in a good location."
Ms. Joanna Burrows - United Kingdom on 13/01/2008

Ms. Tsang Tsz Kwan - Hong Kong on 05/10/2007
"A great hotel to stay with children - very central. Childrens pool. Facilities charmingly dated but everything clean and functional. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Great value for junior suite with extra beds for children. Large rooms so not at all cramped."
Mrs. Amanda Davis - Laos on 23/08/2007

Mr. Hans Torhaug - Thailand on 21/05/2007
"Unfortunately the hotel is old and dated. Require an overall makeover."
Mr. Mark Chai - Australia on 15/05/2007
"Bathroom and swimmin pool have to maintain."
Mr. Jan Babar - Thailand on 25/01/2007
