Lane Xang Princess Hotel
Sustainability
Madam Keo is a very unique, dynamic lady who is an inspiration to all!
A beautiful, well-presented, young-at-heart 60 year old volunteer at the Lane Xang Princess Hotel comes here "for relaxing".
After 39 years working a high demand, high stress job in the banking industry, Madam Keo retired, only to come out of the that retirement almost immediately to help her sister run a guest house for a year. But with a lot of energy and skills to give, Madam Keo moved to the bigger, faster paced Lane Xang Hotel where she has taken up the new skills in tourism and hospitality like she had work in a hotel for the past 39 years.
Madam Keo volunteers at Lane Xang Princess Hotel as a relaxing hobby, and a way to still meet and talk to people, use her brain and to save her language skills of French and English which she is afraid she will forget when she stops working.
When asked what she does at the Lane Xang Princess, Madam Keo replied "everything! Whatever needs to be done, nobody tells me, I just do what I think needs to be done. The hotel is a home away from home for me. I come here for relaxing".Management of the Lane Xang Princess Hotel describe her job as human resources, sales and marketing and can only talk too highly of this warm and comfortable older woman.
Madam Keo learnt French growing up in Laos from 1959 - 1970,but developed her English language skills when her family moved to New Delhi in 1960 for 2 years and then Phnom Penh for 1 year.
When asked when she plans to really retire, Madam Keo responded "Maybe in 1 or 2 years".
Caring for destination

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Environmental Preservation
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The Lane Xang Princess Hotel takes the following measures to help the environment:
- Encourages guests to reduce the changing of bed linen and towels by providing a card which guests can place on the bed if they want their linen changed daily. By reducing the unnecessary washing of linen and towels each day, helps to not only preserve the life of the linen but also cuts down on energy consumption, water and detergent use.
- Installed key tags in all guest rooms. By having key tags, when guests are not in their room, all unnecessary electricity is switched off automatically, including lights and air conditioner. This prevents excessive and unnecessary use of electricity, as well as reduces the carbon emission from air conditioners ensuring they are turned off when no one is in the room. Together with these measures, hotel areas such as the lobby and function room are only lighting when the natural light is not sufficient.
- All office procedures aim to reduce and recycle. Printing of documents is kept to a minimum and all recyclable materials including paper and plastic is recycled.
