Laos - Vientiane Hotel Review
Lao Orchid Hotel
BookLocation: Town Centre
From: USD 45.00
The location was convenient and the standard of the hotel and its rooms offered satisfactory value for money. It was good to have a balcony which overlooked a pretty wat and offered a partial view of the (rather dry!) Mekong river. Breakfast was adequate, and all the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Only one problem: a late-night party (beyond midnight) held in the hotel's dining area which was disturbing. However, staff did their best to negotiate a resolution.- 02/04/2010, Mr. Philip Rioch
A little affordable gem on the Mekong, great location.- 24/03/2010, Mr. Roger Winter

I ordered and paid $8.00 for the pickup service at the airport, but there was no one waiting for me. The people at the hotel told me they were not properly instructed by whl.travel abut the pick up service. Anyway, even after I showed prove of the previous payment they kept on throwing the responsibility at the agent. I will probably never see my 8 bucks again! Regarding the room: the shower drain was obstructed and caused major flooding all over the place. I was also unsuccessful trying to set the AC during the night and ended up turning it off. The TV didn't work and a neighboring dog barked throughout the night. But the room was clean and really charming. The tree just outside my window made me feel deep in the jungle. Despite of the problems, I would still recommend this place.- 08/08/2010, Mr. Fernando Torres

Great location, enormous breakfast, wonderful to have a refrigerator- 11/10/2009, Ms. Gabrielle Lessard
Very nice place to stay - French colonial style building in green surroundings. A little pricey. Rooms at the rear (the cheaper rooms) looked to be small so only worth the money if you stay in the more expensive front rooms.- 20/03/2008, Mr. Williams Ian

The room was fine, clean and spacious. The hotel doesn't have an elevator. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly.- 05/08/2010, Ms. Leah Zinner
Room is ok - spacious and clean. No wi-fi in the room - but Laos problems... The worse is for our room : no view, but a big wall !!! You have to inform your customers that its a no view room. We asked for other room but it was not possible. So for that reason we will not recommended this guest house, unfortunately.- 02/03/2010, Mr. Jacques TOMEI

gggggrs- 16/07/2010, Mr. Denis Lorent
It is out of the way and even though they have a pool dont book on the strength of that as it is not cared for and very deep if you have children. This place could be so much better with a lick of paint and a good clean. The staff were very helpful. Found better places at the same price in town- 02/07/2010, Mr. stephen shepherd

The services that the guesthouse published were not available. For instance, there was no internet anywhere in the guesthouse (not even at reception!) and there was almost no hot water. This was annoying because we paid twice the price to stay here over other options, because they said they had these services. What made this worse, is how the staff dealt with our requests- lying! They kept saying it would be fixed and they would call ''á friend''. This friend did not exist and we never got the services. Even when we stood next to the receptionist while she called for help, she able to find a phone number and just sat there punching in random numbers. As for the hot water, after one night waiting for a friend to fix it, we finally were put into another room, only to enough water for one person. We have stayed in plenty of budget accommodation and don't mind roughing it. However, this blatant lying was not expected and is a huge turn off to the guesthouse. in a country where you might get that outside, you don't want to have to deal with that at your accommodation. We would have not stayed another night except we had already paid and couldn't get a refund. This place is not worth the money. There are plenty of other reasonable options for accommodation right across the road. Stay away!- 29/08/2010, Ms. Catherine Tindale
Overrated hotel, not clean and too expensive, small rooms. We moved to Vayakorn Inn, about 300 mtrs further: recommended walter- 02/08/2010, Mr. Walter Ligthart

internet is expensive and slow. the location of the hotel is far from center and taxi expensive, it therefore makes the price of the hotel more expensive as any downtown. The pool is dirty.- 04/01/2010, Mr. marc westhof
